Don Butcher joined the Capital Club in 1981 and has been a dedicated member ever since. He can be found most morning at the club.

In 1981, Don had the honor of being the Grand Poo-bah of the noble tradition of the DIMWITS (Dawn's Iron Men and Woman In Training). If you don't know what that is, you must not get to the club early.

Don Butcher was born in 1924 at the old San Jose Hospital, and except for the 3 1/2 years away during World War II, he has lived and worked in San Jose all his life.

Don was also a noted varsity football player at San Jose High School and San Jose State during the early forties.

In 1947, he returned home and earned his degree in Aeronautical Engineering at San Jose State. After graduating Don thought of buying and running an airport, but after practical sense prevailed and he joined the family business. Butcher Electric, which was founded by his father in 1914 under the fourth electrical contracting license issued by the State of California.

Don is now retired and comes to the club and spends many hours shipbuilding. The ships displayed in The Member's Lounge took Don an estimated 450-500 hours each.
